Instructions and information on how to transfer music from your personal computer or laptop to your iPod Touch, Nano, Classic or Shuffle using iTunes software.

Transferring Music to an iPod is Easy!

If you want to know how to transfer your music from your computer to your iPod then you have no need to panic as it is quite an easy task. Actually Apple’s iPods offer several different ways to do the transfer of your music collection from a computer to the iPod itself

This music transfer process is the same for every model whether an iPod Touch, Nano, Classic or Shuffle. Just follow the instructions below and you will find it easy to transfer all your music tracks to any ipod you own.

First of all, before you can transfer music to your iPod, you must get your music songs into the iTunes music library on your computer from your CD collection.

You can easily import all the music tracks from CDs in various formats of music file, including the well known MP3 format, as well as other formats such as WMA, AAC and M4A etc. Also any M4A format music purchased from the iTunes music store can be transferred directly in to the iTunes software on your computer easily by just dragging or clicking the music file and using the File / Add to Library option.

When your music tracks are in your computer’s iTunes library you should connect your iPod to your personal computer using a USB connection and then you will find that the iTunes software will automatically and therefore easily transfer the music files straight to your iPod.

Whenever you add any new songs or music tracks to iTunes library on your PC then the iTunes software will automatically update your iPod with the new tracks the next time you connect your iPod to your computer. This works if you have iTunes setup to automatically synch the music on your iPod, so you may have to check that you have iTunes setup correctly. You may find that this is the standard setting and therefore you will not have to do anything extra.

One you have this working you will find that it is very easy to keep the music on your Ipod up to date!

Sometime the number of music tracks on your computer will exceed the track capacity of what can be stored on your model of iPod. In this case you can use Apples clever Auto Fill feature in iTunes which will automatically select the number of music files and/or audio books and/or podcasts or whatever you want to fit on your iPod at random for you.

It is also possible to configure an iPod as an additional external hard drive for your personal computer and you will be able to access via the My Computer icon on the desktop. This is more tricky with the iPod touch as this does not happen by default, but there are ways around this (just search on Google for iPod Touch hard drive hacks).

Once set up as an external hard dirveyou will be able to just manually drag and drop files of any type your iPod. However you should ote that if you copy music files to an iPod in this way they will not play on your as they did not come from your iTunes music library. However this method is very useful for backing up or even transporting files of any type form your computer especially if you have a large capacity iPod such as an iPod Classic 60gb.

Good Luck with your iPod transfers!
